Flying Into Light

it takes one moment.

you
have
no

breath

and your heart
stops.
beating in your chest

but under your flesh
each cell bursts to life

nerves buzzing
they twitch
zapping,
feeling,
concocting this itch

electrocution of excitement
there’s no way to contain
lightning trapped in a jar
glass bursting into flames
sharp and incandescent
riding rays of light
they land.

now!
one chance:
flapping wings
a jagged flee
window closing fast

vicious heartbeat
panting breath
you’ve broken free

at last
